Dania Abid, Class of 2024, has been named ICOM’s 2022-2023 Student Researcher of the Year (SROY).
SROY is an award presented annually by the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP), a council of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), to student student researchers who demonstrate excellence in their commitment to research during their medical school years. Osteopathic medical colleges across the country select one student from their respective institutions to compete for the national SROY award.
“I’m so grateful to be selected as the SROY for ICOM,” said Student Doctor Abid. “The research process is both challenging and very rewarding. I have learned invaluable skills along the way and I hope to continue doing research throughout my training as a future physician.”
Student Doctor Abid is currently completing her clinical rotations at Stony Brook Southampton in New York — one of ICOM’s core affiliated sites. She currently serves as the Vice President of Programming Development on the Board of the Trustees of the American Medical Student Association (AMSA). Student Doctor Abid also served as the President of ICOM’s Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn) Club and the Chair of the Reproductive Advocacy Committee during the 2021-2022 academic year.
Student Doctor Abid is an InVTRO Research Fellow with the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS). She has authored or co-authored a combined 12 abstracts, manuscripts, online publications, and poster presentations. Student Doctor Abid has also served as an assistant clinical research coordinator at Stanford University School of Medicine’s Radiation Oncology Department; and both a graduate and undergraduate student researcher at San Jose State University’s Reproductive Physiology Lab.
As Student Researcher of the Year, Student Doctor Abid will represent the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine for the National SROY competition this spring.
